When it was formed The falls were formed 12 500 years ago when the ice age got over Upriver form the falls is North Americas largest series of standing waves called the whirlpool rapids The falls are right on the Canadian and American boarder

In the winter In the winter the water never stops flowing but the amount of mist causes ice to form around the falls and river The mounds of ice can form as thick as fifty feet If the winter is cold enough ice will stretch across the river and form an ice bridge
