Using conjunctions in sentences and phrases How to use conjunctions correctly in writing

Purpose Writing sentences using the conjunctions because, but, and so encourages: analytical thinking, promotes extended responses, and enables you to write linguistically complex sentences.

Because tells why I did well on my test because. . .

but is used to show a change of direction I did well on my vocabulary test, but I did not do so well on my math test.

So is a conjunction that tells the result, or effect, of something. For example, It was a hot day, so we went to the beach.
