Ch 6 Section 2 Enzymes
Enzyme Chart
Enzymes in Chemical Rxn Enzymes (like catalysts) speed up a chemical reaction. However, enzymes do not increase how much product is made. Enzymes also do not get used up in the reaction.
Enzymes in Chemical Rxn The reactants that binds to the enzyme is called substrate. The specific location where a substrate binds n an enzyme is called the active site.
Enzymes in Chemical Rxn The active site and the substrate have complementary shapes Once the substrate binds, the active site changes shape and forms the enzyme-substrate complex. Chemical bonds in the substrate are broken and new bonds form to create the products. The products are then release by the enzyme.
