Timeline of Major Events during American Revolutionary War: What do you believe was the most important event during the American Revolution? Why?

Treaty of Paris (1783) In 1783, the United States and Great Britain signed the Treaty of Paris that ended the American Revolution. There were several parts to the Treaty:   1. The United States is an independent nation.

Closing Question What do you believe is the biggest challenge the new nation of the United States of America must face following the American Revolution?

Essential Questions Explain why American colonists fought for independence from Great Britain? Colonists fought for liberty, natural rights, economic gain, self-government and to reserve the right to end the oppressive rule of King George III. 2. Identify TWO major turning points in the American Revolution? Wining the battle of Saratoga in 1777 and the French joining on the side of colonists shortly after. Also the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776 – there is no turning back.

What did Jefferson mean, and not mean, by the phrase “all men are created equal”? He meant that free white males were political equals, not all Americans had equal opportunity. It has inspired people throughout the world to protest, fight and pursue their individual rights. Some have been successful and some have not.

4. List three advantages for both the British and the colonists during the war. What were the exceptions to the spirit of Egalitarianism (equality) that arose after the revolution? Women, Free African Americans, slaves and Native Americans were still not allowed to participate in government. “All men are created equal….”
