Career Story and the Importance of the Value Maker Role Claire Yarwood

Introduction to Build a Value Maker Mark Songhurst

The Importance of Strategic Purpose Christine Bray and John McLoughlin

Strategic Purpose The underpinning and overriding reason why an enterprise exists. Unifies people and guides all its actions. No strategy has any meaning unless it serves a higher purpose. Purpose is what you anchor your network strategies on. Makes life and decision-making easier. Collins and Porras believe a good purpose statement should be "broad, fundamental, inspirational, and enduring”.

Can you identify the organisations? Examples of Purpose Statements Can you identify the organisations?

The happiness of all its members through their worthwhile and satisfying employment in a successful business.

The charity that saves lives at sea.

The purpose of the Organization is to contribute to peace and security by promoting collaboration among the nations through education, science and culture in order to further universal respect for justice, for the rule of law and for the human rights and fundamental freedoms which are affirmed for the peoples of the world, without distinction of race, sex, language or religion, by the Charter of the United Nations.

To make a contribution to the world by making tools for the mind that advance humankind.

Strategic purpose answers... Fundamentally, why does the network exist? For whose benefit are all our efforts being made? What, in our eyes, is the end that we are working to rather than a means? What is the worthwhile cause to which we are all contributing? At the end of the day, what is the real point of all our activities? Who are we really working for? What is of highest value for us? What is our higher purpose?

What should the Value Maker network purpose be? Group Activity What should the Value Maker network purpose be?
