Bellringer—Tuesday Directions: Find the TEN (10) errors in the passage below. About a half our before sunrise on August 3 1492, Christopher Columbus set sale from Palos Spain. He, and his crew sailed on three ships -- the Nina Pinta and Santa Maria. They sailed in search of a shorter route two India. Instead, columbus discovered a “New World.” Experts believe he land on San salvador Island in the Bahamas on October 12, 1492.

Her real-life husband, Desi Arnaz, co-starring as her tv husband, bandleader Ricky Ricardo. Many experts beleive I Love Lucy is one of the gratest TV comedy shows of all time? The real Lucille Ball was born on August 6 1911, in Butte Montana. She grew up in Jamestown, New York.

It is up to you and your partner to decide which four events are most important to the story. Make sure to move chronologically through the text. If you do not know what to include in the event descriptions, include the following elements: Who? What? When? Where?

Guiding Questions for… …INTERPRETIVE COMMENTARY What is this story about on a literal level? How is the narrator’s experience representative of the wider human experience? How do the language and structure of the story create surprise for the reader? Upon rereading the story, how do these elements provide clues to the surprising ending? What does the story suggest about human experience? Consider the title of the story. Why does the author suggest that the events of the story occur in “half a day” despite the final quotation of the story? …MOTIF What words, phrases, images, ideas, objects, events repeat or are emphasized throughout the story? What could these symbolize? Can you categorize any of the symbols into recurring motifs?
