News Vs Feature News/Summary Lead (First Paragraph) uses facts (5 W’s & H). Feature Lead uses a creative open.

News Format Paragraph 1: Summary Lead (5 W’s & H) Paragraph 2: Facts not used in paragraph 1 Paragraph 3: Direct Quotation Paragraph 4: Transition/Fact Paragraph 5: Direct Quotation

Feature Format Paragraph 1: Creative Lead Paragraph 2: Nut Graph Paragraph 3: Direct Quotation Paragraph 4: Transition/Fact Paragraph 5: Direct Quotation

Attribution/Direct Quote Rules Always use NAME SAID Attribution should go at end of first sentence. Never end a story with an attribution. Use full name on first reference only (Example: Jim Becka first time, and Mr. Becka later).

Writing Rules Do not stack quotes. Each direct quotation should take up a paragraph. You may stack transitions/Facts
