Adaptations: Color and Responding to light Plants Adaptations: Color and Responding to light

Plants: Color Why are plants different colors?

Plants are different colors for the purpose of attracting insects Plants are different colors for the purpose of attracting insects. Different insects are attracted to different plants. Insects help spread pollen from one flower to another. This is called pollination. After pollination, seeds are produced.

If you were an insect… If you were an insect, which type of flower would you be attracted to?

Plants: Responding to Light Why do plants respond to light?

One of the things that plants need to survive is light One of the things that plants need to survive is light. It uses energy from the light to make its food. Because plants can make their own food, they are called producers. When a plant is placed under a light source, such as the sun, it will turn its leaves and bend its stem toward the light. This is called phototropism.

Plants Responding to Light Analyze the pictures of the plants. Raise your left arm if you think the light source is coming from the left. Raise your right arm is you think the light source is coming from the right. If the light source is coming from above, raise both arms.
