Lake Cormorant Elementary uses the programs: Making Meaning and Being a Writer (Being a Writer to be presented at another meeting) to achieve the Mississippi College and Career Readiness Standards for: reading, writing, speaking, and listening
Making Meaning Reading comprehension strategies are taught directly through read aloud experience Children learn to use these strategies during Guided Reading and Independent Daily Reading Vocabulary is taught through literature Social component – thinking, listening, sharing
Guided Reading – Teaching Children How to Read Small group instruction and work stations that are planned for children’s reading levels. Develop reading strategies and apply decoding and/or phonics skills Read in a socially supportive environment Develop independent reading
