Awfaz Global School Izghawa Campus Year 10 2017 - 2018 Awfaz Global School Izghawa Campus

What to Expect in Year 10 Entering Key Stage 4, students will begin preparing for their Secondary certificate. Every Year 10 student must take 7 courses. Courses are reviewed for EAL learners: accessibility for international students who are bilingual.

IGCSEs What Are They? The IGCSEs are the International General Certificate of Secondary Education They are academic qualifications aimed at learners aged 14 to 16 (Year 10 and 11). They are the main requirement for progression to A levels. Students cannot qualify for university without their A levels. Therefore, preparation for university admission begins in Year 10 with their IGCSEs. With IGCSEs, students take all of the exams at the end of the course, in Year 11.

IGCSEs Why do we teach International GCSEs? Flexible course content: International GCSEs let you incorporate local content into the specification, making the course more relevant and engaging for learners. Subject Advisors: Teachers can contact experts from the UK in each subject area. Preparation: IGCSEs content and expectations prepare students for A levels and university education. IGCSEs

What We Expect From Students and Parents Attendance: Students must attend classes regularly with little to no room for excused absences. In order to access the curriculum and pass their examinations and course work, students must be present. Abiding by School Rules and Procedures: By Year 10 students should demonstrate maturity and consideration in all areas of school life, including behaviour. This extends to appropriate uniforms, arriving to school on time and with the necessary materials for lessons. Work Ethic and Commitment: We expect Year 10 students to put forth a great deal of effort into their course work and examination preparations. Be assured, if students do not work to their greatest potential, they cannot pass their IGCSEs. Communication with Parents: We hope that parents will support teachers to push their children dedicate themselves to their studies. Next year, parents will be contacted via email to ensure regular communication regarding progress and concerns.

The IGCSE in Islamiyat is assessed through a single exam. Focusing on the basic tenets of Islam and Islamic traditions, laws, writings and practices, it’s designed as a two-year course for teaching in international schools and colleges.

SEN (Special Educational Needs) in KS4 If you believe your child will require support throughout the IGCSEs, including course work and examination support, you must provide a report from a certified educational psychologist. Take your child for an assessment and present the report in September 2017. This way, teachers can prepare support from the beginning of the school year. Depending on the diagnosis, we will offer students extra time, breaks and a reader during examinations.
