Daily Folders and Behavior Logs Students are responsible for bringing their BLUE TAKE HOME FOLDER and behavior log home each day. These serve as an important communication log between the teachers and parents. Students are responsible for coloring their folder for green, blue, purple and pink days. Teachers will color folders for yellow, orange, and red as well as write a brief note describing behaviors. Parents should initial each day so that we know they have seen any notes and are aware of their child’s behavior for the day.

ENGLISH LANUGAGE ARTS AND READING HOMEWORK A spelling pattern will be given to your child at the beginning of each week on your child’s homework sheet. “Suggested words” will be listed as well. Students are responsible for studying and mastering these patterns by the end of the week for the spelling test (usually Friday). At times, a “menu of choices” will be sent home for the students to choose a way to write their spelling words and turn in at the end of the week. In addition to spelling, your child is also expected to read each week night at home. BEGINNING IN SEPTEMBER, a reading log will be sent home with your child. He/she is expected to read AT LEAST 20 MINUTES EACH NIGHT, ending their week with a total of 80 minutes read. This helps build stamina and fluency and helps prepare them for when they start reading their tests on their own in JANUARY. They can read their library books or any other materials at home as long as they are READING! 

MATH HOMEWORK Monday – Friday Math Facts Sheet Students will be expected to read their tests ON THEIR OWN BEGINNING IN JANUARY.

FOR WORK THAT GETS SENT HOME TO BE Make Up Work As per FISD handbook, when a student earns less than a 70 on a daily assignment or test, the teacher will reteach the skill and give the student the opportunity to demonstrate understanding of the skill. If a second grade is given, it will be the highest of the two grades, but not greater than a 70 on a test. FOR WORK THAT GETS SENT HOME TO BE CORRECTED: Please help your child correct any mistakes on their paper (IN PEN and do not erase original answers). Initial it at the top with the date so we know it has been checked and reviewed. Some make up assignments will be done with the teacher during RTI in small groups or one-on- one depending on the needs of the student.

Late Work We have been experiencing some issues with students not completing & turning in assignments during each class period. This may cause them to get behind and their grades to drop. Therefore, if an assignment is not completed during that class period, the assignment will be sent home to complete as homework, on top of normal homework. If the assignment is not returned within 3 days, the grade of a 0 may be given.

Behavior System We use a clip chart in class to monitor behavior for each day. Everyone is able to move up or down depending on the choices they make. Pink- Perfect Pirate (students are rewarded)  Purple-Found Gold Blue-Almost there Green-ARRR you Ready? (everyone starts here) Yellow-Lost at sea Orange-Rough Patch Red-Walk the Plank It is the STUDENT’S responsibility to check the chart at the end of the day and mark the color they are on in their behavior log. I will leave a note ONLY for any clips below green.
