Lordosis Sarah Wong

What is Lordosis? •Lordosis is an inward curve of the lumbar spine •This curve is just above the buttocks •Too much of this curve is called a swayback •Lordosis makes the buttocks more prominent

Causes of Lordosis Spondylolisthesis may cause it and it’s the condition where a vertebra in the spine slips out of place into the bone below, you could be born with it, from doing sports or arthritis in the spine Achondroplasia is a disorder of bone growth that causes the most common type of dwarfism Muscular dystrophies Other Genetic Conditions Some children have pronounce lordosis, which usually fixes itself as the child grows and it’s called benign juvenile lordosis

An Office Visit for Lordosis •A physical exam will be performed •You may be asked to bend forward, to the side, and lie flat on a table so that the spine can be examined in different positions •If the curve in you doesn’t move, evaluation and treatment is needed •May lead to x-rays, a MRI and Labs done
