Lessons from David’s Sin with Bathsheba 2 Samuel 11

Lessons from David’s Sin with Bathsheba It can happen to the best of us. 1 Corinthians 10:12 “Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.” 1 Peter 5:8 “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” Proverbs 7:23-27 Notice v. 26, “all who were slain by her were strong men.”

Lessons from David’s Sin with Bathsheba A woman’s body, when not properly clothed, can produce lust in a man. 1Timothy 2:9 “in like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing, 10 but, which is proper for women professing godliness, with good works.” We need to be very careful with our eyes. James 1:14-15, 1John 2:15-17, Matthew 5:29-30

Lessons from David’s Sin with Bathsheba Proverbs 4:23 “Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life” (NASB) Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” (ESV)

Lessons from David’s Sin with Bathsheba Husbands and wives must be committed to keeping their vows and strengthening their relationships! Matthew 19:1-6, 1Corinthians 6:16, We should not want to defile this “one flesh” relationship. Let us work on strengthening our marriages Colossians 3:18-19, 1Peter 3:1-7

Lessons from David’s Sin with Bathsheba Let us not wait until the last moment to make important decisions. Genesis 39:7-12 1 Corinthians 6:18 “Flee sexual immorality...” 1 Corinthians 10:13 “…but with the temptation will also make the way of escape…” Job 31:1 "I have made a covenant with my eyes; Why then should I look upon a young woman?” (NKJV) (Look intently or gaze) 1Thessalonians 4:1-8

Lessons from David’s Sin with Bathsheba We may be forgiven of adultery or fornication, but still have to suffer for it the rest of our lives. 2 Samuel 12:9-14 Such thoughts should give us motivation to strive in overcoming these.

Lessons from David’s Sin with Bathsheba The lessons from this account should be known just as well as the story itself. This could happen to anyone. A woman’s body should be properly clothed. We must be careful with our eyes. (Job 31:1) Husbands and wives ought to be committed to their vows and strengthening their marriage. We must be firmly convicted in the fact that fornication and adultery are sinful. Even sins that are forgiven by God can carry consequences for the rest of our lives. A humble heart must accept responsibility for actions.
