Presentation transcript:

Cells: A cell is the smallest unit that can carry on all the processes of life.

The cell theory grew out of the work of many scientists Invented a better microscope Studied plant cells Studied animal cells-all living things made of cells Cells come from other cells Named Cells

The Cell theory has three principles: (1) All organisms are made of cells.

The Cell theory has three principles: (1) All organisms are made of cells. (2) All cells are produced by other living cells.

The Cell Theory has three principles: (1) All organisms are made of cells. (2) All cells are produced by other living cells. (3) The structure of a cell fits its function.

There are two basic cell types: (1) eukaryotic cells and (2) prokaryotic cells. Eukaryotic cells have a nucleus. Animal cells appear more round in shape. Plant cells appear more rectangular in shape. Examples: Plants Animals Fungi Protista nucleus organelles

Prokaryotic cells do not have a nucleus Prokaryotic cells do not have a nucleus. They are very small compared to eukaryotic cells. Examples: Bacteria nucleus organelles cytoplasm
