Food Quality Protection Act of 1996 Jennifer Peng Period 2

Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA) It was drafted in 1995, but wasn’t signed into law until August 3, 1996. It is a National Law Helped to monitor and standardize the use of pesticides and other chemicals in foods. It also amended the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, Rodenticide Act and the Federal Food and drug Cosmetic Act. It mandated a health-based standard for pesticides and chemicals used in foods, streamlines the approval of safe pesticides, required that pesticide registrations remain current, established incentives for the creation of safer pesticides, and provided special security measures for babies and infants. Overall, it helped to improve the quality of the food we ate and made sure harmful chemicals were not being utilized.

Food Quality Protection Act Regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency. Environmental Issues Affected: Improved health standards for food commodities Improved public health Reduced risk of using pesticides Decreased the amount of unnecessary usage of pesticides or other chemicals
