FINDINGS & CONCLUSIONS 1). RADIOTHERAPY CENTRES HAVE INCREASED FROM 1 (1968) to 9 (2017) 50yrs – 9 CENTRE POPUL 180million CANCER INCIDENCE – 500,000 Note 4 NEW CENTRES ADDED (2008 – 2017). 2). PERSONNEL - Tremendous Increase. Especially Consultant Clinical Oncologists ˃ 300% Increase between 2008 – 2017 Added:- i.e Training was/is intense Positive impact.

, 3). FACILITIES 3- NEW LINEAR ACCELERATORS ADDED BETWEEN 2008 AND 2017. 1- EXTRA NEW HDR ADDED BETWEEN 2008 AND 2017. TRAINING 1989 – RESIDENCY TRAINING FMCR Commenced BETWEEN 1995 – 2000 – RESIDENCY TRAINING IN FWACS commenced There was intense activity in residency postgraduate medical training and training of other cancer experts between 1993 up to date. – This has resulted in ˃ 300% INCREASE IN NUMBER OF CONSULTANT CLINICAL ONCOLOGISTS, MED PHYSCISTS -200%, RADIOGRAPHERS-50%, NURSE ONCOLOGISTS –OVER 200% produced by 2017 vs number produced between 1998—2007. RESEARCH/ACADEMICS PUBLICATIONS Msc in Pscho-Oncology Palliative Oncology, now being introduced into medical and postgraduate clinical oncology. 1 PROFESSOR IN MED PHYSICS, BETWEEN 1978 – 1987 8 PROFESSORs IN RADIATION ONCOLOGY BY 2017.

CANCER ADVOCACY CANCER REGISTRIES AWARENESS PROGRAMME C.A.F – 1st attempt – 1978 – 1987 NOW CEAFON, BRECAN, SEBECCELY etc. NO DOUBT INFLUENCE DETECTION & INCREASE IN INCIDENCE OF CANCER. CANCER REGISTRIES 1968 – 1977 - UCH main Cancer Registry – strictly then Hospital based. 2008 – 2017 – MANY POPULATION BASED CANCER REG. IBCR & ABCR – LEADING. –DATA ON INCIDENCE OF CANCER IN NIGERIA NOW BECOMING AVAILABLE.

Summary of Conclusion From the indices presented, the greatest impacts by Radiation and Clinical Oncology in the last decade, has been in the area of training of personnel and in the Academics.
