Aging in Atlanta: 20 Counties Thousands Older adults are the fastest growing demographic in metro Atlanta. And Metro Atlanta is leading this national trend. At the moment, 1 in 10 of our population is over age 60. By 2030 (just 13 years from today), it will have doubled: 1 in 5 of us will be over age 60. Housing that Supports Independence of Older Adults Located near services Individuals to services E.g., shopping, transportation, health, social activities Services to the individuals E.g., in-home services Implications for workforce mobility Diverse housing types/options E.g., secondary units, both age-specific and all ages integrated Accessible E.g., built with universal design, home modifications Affordable Safe   Aging housing needs are often about access to services. Location of housing is only focused on transportation to jobs but increasingly about access to needed services – We ask: can individuals get to the services they need? Can workers get to homes to provide services in the home (e.g., homemaking, caregiving, health care)? In planning for additional housing, it can include housing focused on older adults, but important to factor in that most older adults are not currently in age-specific housing – and many say they prefer integration into the overall community. Handouts -- Housing Briefs:  - The challenge: Older adults may face additional livability challenges to stay in their communities - The opportunity: The same things that are good in housing for older adults may work for younger adults.
