FIU Library Catalog Team 13

Where to Login? First you have to go to the website: https://library.fiu.edu/ to login where. You can either log in off campus or in school; all you need to do is type in your FIU email and password

Using the Library Catalog After logging into the account, you can click on the tab that says catalog. Once you type in whatever you are looking for, a page will pop up showing you different types of format for whatever article it might be.

What You Will Find With the Library Catalog The library catalog will give you access to hundreds of thousands of books, articles, E-journals, course reserves, videos, sound clips, archives and others, generally for research purposes. These items can be searched up using an author, title, ISBN, subject heading, series, call number and more to make searching easier. There is an option for basic or advanced search and they can be used to find a publication physically at the libraries in the FIU campuses, or accessed online. Searches can be narrowed down based on various filters in the catalog such as library, format, series title, genre, author, subject: topic and more.

Limiting Your Search To Just Books Log Into: https://library.fiu.edu/ Click on the “CATALOG” tab Search box: type the title of the book or author Left column to narrow your search to just books

Searching For Books With the Catalog to Then Find Them in Person Once you type in the search bar what you are looking for and limit the search to just books, you are then able to see each library’s collection, the different formats, and the different series titles.

Searching For Books With the Catalog to Then Find Them in Person Once the specific library is selected you then have more subcategories, some in which may already tell you what floor. Another option would be mapping it or using the LC call number

How do you find the book on the shelf Once the “Map It” button is clicked it will show you exactly what floor and what shelf the book is on. Next the books LC call number will locate it on the shelf because the shelves are organized alphabetically, this makes it easier to locate the book since the LC call number starts off with the letters which would be found on the spine of the book.

What if the book I want is in another library? Case: You live close to BBC but your book is in the MMC library. NO PROBLEM:

Transferring book from one campus library to the other Once you find the book you are searching for using the steps above, transfer the book in a few steps: Locate the desired title Click “Transfer” in the bottom right of the title section Select pick up location Delivery takes about 3 business days and you will receive an email when the book is ready Pick up at circulation desk with your ID card and save that gas money

If a book was printed before March 1, 2018, how could it be useful for the final essay? While your topic for the final essay has to have occurred in the recent months, a book printed before the occurrence of the event can give you: essential background information relevant to the development of the event, and can give details of similar situations, which could be extremely useful. The main use of books printed in the past is for background information. Books can help provide evidence for the thesis and/or arguments. Books also show examples of similar events, that can help explain how and why your global event happened by using previous cases and comparing them.
