Being Like Him Detached from Sin

Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. (Romans 12:9 ESV) Our goal/challenge is to act consistently with ALL sin.

We all have cares, some level of riches, and desires for other things …but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. (Mark 4:19 ESV) What is our attitude toward fleshly things is the point !

We live as we have set our mind to live, to the flesh or to the Spirit For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. (Romans 8:5 ESV) We live as we have set our mind to live, to the flesh or to the Spirit We set our mind on the flesh and then wonder why there’s no change in our lives

3 Facts About Fleshly Traits “Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!” And to him who lacks sense she says, “Stolen water is sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.” But he does not know that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of Sheol. (Proverbs 9:16-18 ESV) Sinful things are an illusion

3 Facts About Fleshly Traits If you have found honey, eat only enough for you, lest you have your fill of it and vomit it. (Proverbs 25:16 ESV) Sinful things are an illusion Even things not sinful, can deceive us

The flesh has limitations, only the Spirit is unlimited They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved. (2 Peter 2:19 ESV) The flesh has limitations, only the Spirit is unlimited We want to limit the Spirit and make the flesh limitless We become slaves to whatever overcomes us Carnal things, fleshly things are addicting !

3 Facts About Fleshly Traits But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” (Luke 10:40 ESV) Sinful things are an illusion Even things not sinful, can deceive us Carnal things lead us to the wrong questions

How to get power for our attachment to God and detachment from sin Make meaningful sacrifice to change, rise above where you presently are, 1 Peter 3:18 Develop a passion for your brethren, 1 John 4:21 Develop a passion for the kingdom’s cause, Matthew 6:33
