Great Bridge The Great Bridge was a village in 1775. The bridge was built near the Elizabeth River. It was the only road south that led to the harbor of Norfolk.

Lord Dunmore He was the British Governor He was a very bad governor because he destroyed printing presses and closed Patriots shops. He thought the Patriots would attack him.

Battle of the Great Bridge It was the first ever land battle in Virginia The colonists and British fought against each other in the battle. The war lasted only half an hour.

Results of the Battle Americans won the battle! After the battle over 100 British men were dead and wounded after the battle. Lord Dunmore got so scared that he left on a British ship.
