AFRICAN SWINE FEVER Foreign Animal Disease Only affects swine Symptoms Never seen in United States Only affects swine Can kill up to 100% of swine No vaccine Symptoms High Fever Hemorrhagic disease

African swine fever Outbreak began in China in August Majority of our vitamins and minerals are imported from China Smaller outbreak in eastern Europe Found in wild boar

African swine fever Virus is very hardy Very concerning Can live in feedstuffs for a month or more Very concerning Euthanasia of large numbers in houses Disposal of large numbers Feral swine

Swine testing and id Swine tested after December 1 Allows them to show through OYE Must be identified with an electronic 840 tag Tag must be applied before or at the time of testing Do not combine 840 and OYE tags OYE is not an official tag Proper application is important Email sent with more information

Swine testing and id Proper tag application Place as deep in the ear as possible but don’t impinge on the cartilage ribs Use proper tag applicator Apply tag with thick part to inside of ear Dip tag in disinfectant to help prevent infection
