Helpful Tips for Freshmen Parents

Organizational System Planner or planning sheets Notebook(s) or 3 ring binders designated for each class

Organizing School Technology Sites Teachers use a variety of technology to post homework, calendars, test information etc. Have your student complete a technology form that will clearly list the teacher’s name, class technology information, and passwords. Parents, you should be able to access this information as well!

MiStar Know your MiStar password This is how you can check your student’s academic progress MiStar is a real-time site; don’t get caught up in checking multiple times a day or week. Parents = Once a week Students = Twice a week

Studying/reviewing class materials Extracurricular activities Time Management Balance is key! Completing homework Studying/reviewing class materials Extracurricular activities

Seminar Students should be utilizing the benefits of seminar Students should be meeting with teachers for: Test review; help on assignments; making up missing work It should NOT be a time to complete homework (with the exception of a few cases) It should NOT be a social hour
