Building Assets in Schools Relationships Environments Programs Practices Our data tells us that assets are built in schools in 4 powerful ways. Relationships are key. Positive relationships create safer and more caring school environments. Programs such as ABC and Los Dichos in elementary schools have given schools ways to engage parents as asset builders. The relationships these caring adults nurture with youth helps create a safer, more caring environment at school. A safer and more caring school environment improves student achievement. Programs like ABC and Los Dichos build relationships, positively impact the environment and change the way of doing things at school. Day to day practices like smiling, learning names and including others changes the culture at school. The school wide practice of intentionally using a strength perspective- looking to build upon, rather than criticize a child’s abilities- leads to quotes like this one from kids: “I want to be an UPstander!” Middle School ASSETS 101 | ©2014 Project Cornerstone

Who is an Asset Builder? If you’re breathing… you’re on the team! Who is an asset builder? If you are breathing, you are on the team! Asset building is common sense, just un-common in day to day practice. Intentionally building assets in youth helps us close the gap between what we know we SHOULD do and what we DO. Use your strengths to build assets. (Tell a story here…) Middle School ASSETS 101 | ©2014 Project Cornerstone
