Symbolism

A symbol is… A symbol is an image which suggests or represents something other than itself. (In other words, when you use something tangible to represent something intangible) . tangible (things you can touch) intangible (things you cannot touch or abstract ideas)

Disney cartoons are known for having strong usage of color symbolism. What color is Mufasa? Describe. What color is Scar? Describe. 3. Considering the two lions are brothers, explain why you think there is a difference in coloration.

Disney cartoons are known for having strong usage of color symbolism. Scar has dark hair (Evil) and green (jealous) eyes Mufasa has golden (Brave) hair 3. Disney is trying to show the difference between the two brothers and to symbolize their character through their coloring since scar is evil and Mufasa is grand and kind.

In literature, symbolism… creates a direct, meaningful link between… a specific object, scene, character, or action and abstract ideas, values, persons or ways of life.

Let`s take a look at a few symbols that are commonly found in literature

A River A river can represent the flow of life… … or its depth may represent the unknown… … the water might be purity… … or there could be dangers beneath the surface.

A Tunnel A walk into a tunnel – or change from day to night – could show movement from good to evil, or that something bad is coming…

Dawn Dawn may show the end of conflict, the “start of a new day.”

A Storm A storm at a critical moment can represent the intense emotion and trouble…
