Concept-based Definition of Division Goal: To develop and use a conceptually-based definition for division. Visualize actions on quantities (not numbers). General, encompass many situations and interpretations (not limiting to just one view). Accurate in the long term (don’t set students up for misconceptions). Language attends to the conceptual meaning of the operation.

Reflect Considering the four criteria for definitions, what were some of the reasons for your top choices? Jot down at least two of the definitions in your notebook; the ones you want to hang on to for use with students.
