The Once-ler tells Ted that he cut down all the fuzzy Truffula trees to make popular clothing called Thneeds. The movie has a message for everyone: protect the environment. In 1997, the NEA began working on ways to celebrate a very important activity: reading. The Read Across America program includes ways to celebrate reading all year round. Dr. Seuss wrote his first children’s book, And to Think that I Saw It on Mulberry Street, in 1937. Since that time, many children have enjoyed Dr. Seuss’ books.
