WHEN DID GVSU BEGIN RECYCLING? 1990 For every ton of recycled paper, one new tree will be planted. The university plans to create a 100 tree arboretum. President Arend Lubbers took up a gold-plated shovel and, with the university recycling committee, planted the first of this year’s 33 trees.

WHAT DO WE RECYCLE? PLASTICS: #1- #7 GLASS: Clear, brown, and green glass.   CANS: We can recycle all types of metal. BATTERIES: Household batteries. CARDBOARD   PAPER: We also recycle magazines, paperback books, notebooks, and general office paper. Pre and post consumer food waste & compostable material

WHERE CAN I RECYCLE? Recycle stations are located in all housing living center units. All academic buildings. All apartments have multi bins in their parking lots. Multi-bin is also located behind the Service Building and in Lot D.

2009-2010 RECYCLE VS. LANDFILL 788 tons of recycling 1354 tons of material were sent to the land fill 37% of GVSU waste was recycled in the 09-10 school year
