Revision of the 1999-2004 NUTS-3 data Up-dated NUTS-3 figures adjusted data according to last census change in methodology Consistent NUTS-3 figures with LFS NUTS-2 data reference period, age groups and basis of the data

Revision of the 1999-2004 data Revised data Econ. active population Denmark 1999-2004 Spain 1999-2004 France 1999-2004 Malta 2000-2004 Austria 2004 Portugal 1999-2004 Sweden 1999-2004 Romania 2004 Unemployed persons Denmark 1999-2004 Germany 2003-2004 Spain 1999-2004 France 1999-2004 Malta 2000-2004 Poland 1999-2004 Finland 2000, 2004 Romania 2004

3-year average unemployment rates Chapter 3 3-year average unemployment rates

3-year average unemp. rates Unemployment rate from t to t+2 = (Unemp.t + Unemp.t+1 + Unemp.t+2) / (Ec.ac.pop.t + Ec.act.pop.t+1 + Ec.ac.pop.t+2) * 100 [%]

3-year average unemp. rates Aim: to increase quality of the data Investigation revealed the following problems: outliers breaks in time series unreliable annual figures 3-year average figure would hide them  this figure was replaced by NA

3-year average unemp. rates Each annual figure is in principle used three times: Unemployed in 2002: Un. rate from 2000 to 2002 Un. rate from 2001 to 2003 Un. rate from 2002 to 2004 Number of NA figures would triple problematical annual figures Taking into account not reliable figures: 25 % wholes Eurostat decided not to publish 3-year average unemployment rates

Dispersion of regional employment rates Chapter 4 Dispersion of regional employment rates

Dispersion of regional employment rates One of the key indicators on EU policy called structural indicators Calculated for NUTS-2 level Employment rate of the 15-64 age group employed persons aged 15-64 as a percentage of population of the same age group

Dispersion of regional employment rates Dispersion of regional (NUTS-2) employment rates of the 15-64 age group Shows the regional differences in employment within countries and groups of countries (EU-25, Euro area). Expressed by coefficient of variation of regional employment rates of the age group 15-64

Dispersion of regional employment rates The weighted variance of regional employment rates of the age group 15-64:                                              (*)

Dispersion of regional employment rates The coefficient of variation of employment rates is the square root of the variance (*) divided by the employment rate at national (European, respectively) level

Dispersion of regional employment rates at NUTS 3 level To be calculated from NUTS-3 economically active population and unemployment figures Population data NUTS-3 demographic data Results to be presented in December at the Employment committee indicator group in Brussels
