Acting without speaking Pantomime Acting without speaking

Pantomime is the art of acting without words It is often called the art of silence https://youtu.be/H-fJC5EN8LY?list=PLNSgmOqIsjgTvN1w-21PzikUCTdHFGC08\

Non-verbal communication The character is portrayed through gestures, facial expression and movement. Pantomime goes hand in hand with dance & was the forerunner of classical ballet. All Actors use pantomime onstage.

How to Pantomime? Exercise to relax your muscles Create a response to something: an object, a situation, something you see Focus on detail. React with your face. Move your hands as if there were real things you are touching. Realize that it takes time, and that you must learn to focus on every movement to show the audience what you are doing, and why.

Mime vs. Pantomime What is the difference? https://youtu.be/FPMBV3rd_hI

Write 5 differences between Mime and Pantomime

Practice Choose a task an practice it as a pantomime Washing the dog Walking down the hall and bumping into your crush accidently Climbing a ladder; reaching the top you are afraid of how high you are At the doctor’s office, getting a shot Getting new shoes; wearing them outside the store; trying not to step in mud In an airport with a suitcase, umbrella, and magazines. You run to catch your plane, and drop your suitcase, spilling all the contents. You try to put them all back in the suitcase and still catch your flight. You are watching a scary movie. You are brushing your teeth, putting on make-up and getting ready for a date.

Assignment Write down an idea that you can pantomime with another person. Tomorrow we will take partners and practice the silent acting.
