Overview of English Language Arts Revisions Examples removed from the standards Word changes for clarity Language Bands/Continuums created for Grammar & Conventions Three Writing Standards absorbed; added planning and revision 12 Instructional Practices (similar to the 8 Math Practices) These practices are inherent to aligned ELA instruction and support standard-focused, text-centered teaching Chart of changes Language Continuums Talking Points Skills within each continuum are arranged by grade band rather than by grade to allow for multiple years of practice and scaffolding. In the lower grade of the band, the teacher is introducing and modeling the skill. In the higher grade of the band, students are applying the skill to more complex text, as they work toward mastery. Each bulleted skill is taught in both/all grades within that band. Some skills are reinforced every year with increasingly complex text (such as subject/verb agreement). For high school students, teachers need to revisit skills through mini lessons when they see gaps of understanding within their writing or speaking and listening or even reading. Communication within the grade band will be extremely important so that everyone shares an understanding of the skills and how the continuums work.

Overview of Math Revisions Standards with multiple parts were rewritten using bullets to be concise. Language to add clarity of expectations. Examples were removed from the standards. Footnotes were removed. Some standards were combined while other standards were separated.
