Their location PNW is located in these states: Eastern Washington, Eastern Oregon, and Panhandle Idaho. SWD is located in these states: Arizona, Southwestern California, Southwestern New Mexico, and Southwestern Texas. PlantsGalore.Com DesertUSA

Pacific Northwest information A diversity of grasslands. Bunchgrasses like the Palouse Prairie and Canyon Grasslands are the dominate plants. These include bluebunch wheatgrass and Idaho fescue. 12-25 inches is the amount of precipitation these grasses get, mostly as rain, in the spring. Summer rains are uncommon as well as wildfire started by lightning. Dry summers have limited invasion of trees and shrubs into the grasslands. The soils of Palouse grassland are mostly windblown soils, excellent for farming. Only 1% of Palouse prairies exist today. It all was plowed to create the most productive u- non-irrigated cropland in the world that grows dry land wheat, lentils, and dry peas.

Southwest Deserts information There are three major deserts types that align with three major deserts: Mojave, Sonoran, and Chihuahuan. These three deserts are known as the “hot deserts”. This regions temperatures are hot, with several weeks or months of daily high temperatures exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit. 5- 20in is how much precipitation per year. Mojave desert is dominated by creosote bush and a mix of other shrubs and warm-seasons grasses. Sonoran desert is dominated by large succulent plants such as the saguaro and other upright cactus plants. The Chihuahuan is dominated by a mix of shrubs, like mesquite and creosote bush, as well as stretches of grasslands well known on deeper soils.
