STUDY HALL Homeroom is a study hall time. Please sit in your assigned seat and find something to do quietly. You may work on homework, study, or read. If you have forms – please turn them in.

COME IN QUIETLY AND SIT IN YOUR SEAT. THURSDAY, AUGUST 10, 2017 COME IN QUIETLY AND SIT IN YOUR SEAT. FILL OUT YOUR AGENDA AND HAVE IT OUT FOR ME TO SIGN. Classwork – Science Careers Homework: Science Word Search due tomorrow

Observe the pictures below. What career do you think each one displays Observe the pictures below. What career do you think each one displays? (Number your paper 1 – 8) 1 2 3 4 6 7 5 8

1. Astronomer Astronomers apply the principles of physics and mathematics to learn more about the universe. They gather data on the characteristics of planets, moons, stars and other objects using telescopes and computer programs. Astronomers earn a median salary of $104,100 per year. Salaries typically start from $52,460 and go up to $166,320.

2. Aerospace Engineer/Programmer Aerospace engineers design primarily aircraft, spacecraft, satellites, and missiles. In addition, they test prototypes to make sure that they function according to design. Aerospace engineers earn a median salary of $107,830 per year.

3. Geologist A geologist studies earth processes such as earthquakes, landslides, floods, and volcanic eruptions to survey land and draw up safe building plans. When geologists investigate earth materials, not only do they investigate metals and minerals, but they also look into oil, natural gas, water and methods to extract these. Geologist earn an average salary of 89,700 per year.

Chief Meteorologist David Chandley A meteorologist is an individual with specialized education who uses scientific principles to explain, understand, observe or forecast the earth's atmospheric phenomena and/or how the atmosphere affects the earth and life on the planet. Observations and measurements made by meteorologist may be used to forecast the Earth's weather patterns. Weathermen are the people who broadcast these forecasts. Meteorologists median salary: for a TV weatherman who has training as a meteorologist is $80,250. Meteorologists who work in government stand to make a bit more – their median salary was approximately $95,000. Chief Meteorologist David Chandley

5. Climatologist Climatologists are scientists who study long-term trends in climate. Climatologist earn a median salary of $89,260 with a salary range between $49,120, and $134,730.

6. Environmental Engineers Environmental engineers use the principles of engineering, soil science, biology, and chemistry to develop solutions to environmental problems. They are involved in efforts to improve recycling, waste disposal, public health, and water and air pollution control. Environmental Engineers earn a mean salary of $83,340 per year.

7. Mineralogists Mineralogy is the study of minerals, their crystalline and chemical structures, and their properties such as melting points. A mineralogist is a person who studies minerals, which technically include all naturally occurring solid substances. Mineralogist earn a mean salary of $90,890 per year.

8. Mining A miner is a person who extracts ore, coal, or other mineral from the earth through mining. There are two senses in which the term is used. In its narrowest sense, a miner is someone who works at the rock face; cutting, blasting, or otherwise working and removing the rock. An underground miner earns an average of $21.59 per hour on small underground mines and $22.57 per hour on large underground mines.

If you were going to choose one of these Science careers, which one would it be and why? 1.) Astronomer 2.) Aerospace Engineer 3.) Geologist 4.) Meteorologist 5.) Climatologist 6.) Environmental Engineer 7.) Mineralogist 8.) Miner
