Chapter 1~ Introduction to Chemistry Chapter 2~ Analyzing Data Is the study of the composition, structure, and properties of matter and changes it undergoes. Substance: is a matter that has a definite and uniform composition. Chemical: any substance that has a defined composition. Chemical Reaction: the process by which one or more substances change to produce one or more substances.

the physical forms of matter, which are solid, liquid, gas and plasma. States of Matter: the physical forms of matter, which are solid, liquid, gas and plasma. Reactant: a substance or molecule that participates in a chemical reaction. Product: a substance that forms in a chemical reaction. Matter: anything that has mass and takes up space; “stuff”. Volume: a measure of the size of a body or region in three dimensional space. Mass : a measure of the amount of matter in an object. weight = mass * gravity 8/18/2011 Stopped here w/ 7th period & 8th Period.

Qualitative data: information that describes color, odor, shape, or some other physical characteristics. Quantitative data: numerical information. Pure research: scientific investigation to gain knowledge for the sake of knowledge itself. Applied research: is research undertaken to solve a specific problem.
