MORE ABOUT ORGANIC COMPOUNDS!!! ***REMEMBER: ORGANIC MEANS HAS CARBON & MAKES UP LIVING THINGS***

There are 4 types. We have already discussed 3 of them! 1. CARBOHYDRATES 2. LIPIDS 3. PROTEINS 4. NUCLEIC ACIDS

PROTEIN CARBOHYDRATE LIPID

4) NUCLEIC ACIDS 2 Types: DNA RNA

DNA is considered the BLUEPRINT of life! It controls all of the PROTEINS made in the body RNA is the middle man! DNA RNA PROTEIN

NOW A LITTLE ABOUT SPECIAL PROTEINS…..

ENZYMES Special proteins that help in CHEMICAL REACTIONS such as DIGESTION . Without enzymes, these chemical reactions would occur VERY slowly or not at all!

HORMONES Special proteins that help one part of the body COMMUNICATE with another part of the body. Very important in maintaining a BALANCE within the body! HOMEOSTASIS: keeping things the same! Examples: ESTROGEN, TESTOSTERONE, STEROIDS, & INSULIN.

PLACES WHERE HORMONES ARE MADE

Enzymes in the liver! 2H202 2H20 + 02 CATALASE
