Do Now Connect all the lines on the sheet. If you finish early start the questions

Topographic (contour maps) maps measure a landscape’s elevations. Many kinds of measurements can be turned into “maps”!

air temperature, air pressure and other measurements can be turned into a “field map” .

*Isolines, isotherms, and isobars: All of these words contain the prefix “iso” Iso means equal points. Just like the word suggests these types of lines connect equal points of things *Isolines, isotherms, and isobars: What do you notice about these words?

Field – a region of space that contains a measurable quantity at every point (anything that can be measured) Examples: temperature, relative humidity, gravity, air pressure, magnetism, elevation Fields can be shown on maps by using ISOLINES.

Isolines is the “generic” term for the lines that connect ANY points of equal value.

Isotherms: connect points of equal temperature.

Isobars: conneact points of equal air pressure. What is the highest isobar air pressure on this field map? (996mb) (1000mb) What is the lowest isobar air pressure on this field map?

Isolines NEVER TOUCH and connect points with smooth lines Isolines NEVER TOUCH and connect points with smooth lines. When possible, they go to the end of the box.

Let’s Practice! Take out a pencil!
