Personal Finance Warmup questions

Day #1 – Warm-up question Tell me about yourself – What type of career are you interested in? What type of college are you interested in? What do you think are some of the best jobs in America? Look at the following link for a list of the top 100 best jobs in America. http://money.cnn.com/pf/best-jobs/ Select (1) job that you may be interested in and describe what they do and what makes it great.

Day #2 warm-up question List (5) ways that your career can powerfully impact your life.

Day #3 warm-up question List three ways that you have already invested in building skills and planning for a job or career. Refer to the CB South club and activities guide and list 2-3 activities that you could get involved with related to your career interests. http://www.cbsd.org/domain/558

Day #4 – Warm-up question When you are in college, would you like to study abroad? If so, what country would you like to visit? Would you choose an English speaking country?

Day #5 – Warm-up question Research online and find a company that will pay for college loan debt.

Day #6 – warm-up Question The man who does not work for the love of work but only for money is not likely to make money nor find much fun in life. Do you agree or disagree with the statement? Explain why. Find a quote about work or money that you could be your work/money motto.

Day #7 – Warm-up question Can teens be exempt from paying taxes?

Day #8 – Warm-up Do you want to be rich? Who doesn’t! Read the quote about Secrets of the Millionaire Mind. “Wealthy people think of money working for them through savings and investing”. When you receive money what is the first thing that you do? Do you think about future financial goals? Do you set aside a specific amount for those goals? List (2) events in the future that you need to save money for & approximately how much to save for each.

Day #9 – warm-up Why is it important to have a financial plan? What are several advantages of starting a savings/investing plan early in life?

Day #10 – warm-up Would you like to invest in the stock market? If you were given $1000 cash to invest, what company would you choose?

Day #11 – warm-up Identify a company that you love their products or services. Explain why.

Day #12 – warm-up What is a stock’s ticker symbol?

Day #13 – warm-up What is a mutual fund?

Day #14 – Warm-up What are the most popular stock exchanges? Name (2)

Day #15 – warm-up What are several reasons that people invest money in the stock market?

Day #16 – warm-up What are the top (10) holding on the following mutual fund/ETF? SPDR Technology fund (XLK)

Day #17 – warm-up What do you think is the most important thing that you learned about investing in the stock market? What surprised you the most about your investments and the profitability of your portfolio?

Day #18 – warm-up How old do you need to be to buy stock? Under Age? No problem. – Can you still be a stockholder?

Day #19 warm-up Do you think that if you save and invest early in life that you would be able to retire early? If you did decide to retire early what would you do with your free time? (travel, start a business, live at the beach) Why do you think it is important to start saving or investing early in life?

Day #20 warm-up Do you think how well someone handles their money when they are young is an indication of how they will when they are an adult? Explain.

Day #21 – warm-up If you were lost on a deserted island would you rather find $100,000 in cash or fresh food/water and rescue flares?

Day #22 – warm-up What advice would you give someone who is a new investor in the stock market? What should they avoid?

Day #23 – warm-up What do you think will be the biggest challenge for you in managing your money in the future? Career planning –finding the right job Debt - student loan debt, credit card debt Investing – saving enough money for a large purchase (wedding, car, house, retirement)

Day #24 warm-ups How profitable is your stock portfolio? Are you ready to hold an investment for a while? Successful investors stick with an investment for five, ten or more years. What stock would you choose for a long-term investment?

Day #25- warm-up List (2) projects that you enjoyed working on in Personal Finance. What would you like to have spent more time on – career exploration, banking/budgeting, stock market investing, or something else? Any suggestions for the class in the future?
