Backwards Design Approach Identify desired results – what should students know, understand and be able to do? What is worthy of understanding? Consider goals: Course performance objectives Department/Program outcomes Examine content standards (institutional, state, national Review curriculum expectations Instructors/students’ interests & expectations Getting to know students – starting the course with image-based introductions.

Backwards Design Approach Determine Acceptable Evidence -- How will we know if students have achieved the desired results and met the standards? What will we accept as evidence of student understanding and proficiency? Consider a range of assessment methods – informal and formal Q&A, daily feedback, presentations, tests, videos Reports, quizzes, projects, team work, games, badges Consider how student understanding will be measured before designing the specific units and lessons. Well-written outcomes lead directly to their assessments

Backwards Design Approach 1. Plan learning experiences and instruction - What knowledge and skills will students need to perform effectively and achieve desired results?

Technology Matrix

Does the Technology… Support the learning objectives and competencies? Promote learner engagement and active learning? Are they readily obtainable and accessible for ALL? Are the technologies current? Are the link to the privacy policies for all external tools provided somewhere in the course?
