Gender Differences in Education

Learning Objectives To explain how internal and external factors affect differential gender achievement To apply knowledge of differential gender achievement to an essay question

Statistics In 2013: Girls achieved 10% higher than boys at GCSE On starting school teacher assessments showed girls ahead of boys by 7-17% in all areas of learning assessed (including literacy and maths).

Sort Cards In pairs, organise the cards into internal and external factors. For each factor, in your notepads write how it would cause differences in achievement between females and males.

Diamond Nine Individually, complete a diamond nine sheet for the internal factors and a diamond nine sheet for the external factors. You need to be able to explain why you have ranked them the way you have.
