Overview of Partners Alberta/Brenda – RVCC There are other activities each partner does in addition

About Bound Brook HS 150 students in recruiting class Initially ~50% were invited to BTE to target students that were in the “middle” Eventually opened up recruitment to all students 41 students applied/accepted into the program After year 1, ~35 students are active in the program Students career interest vary significantly More than 1/3 of the students of the recruitment class were in BTE

Ethicon surgery instrument experience Camp Bernie (team building) Hands on Sessions Ethicon surgery instrument experience Camp Bernie (team building) Medical panel R&D workshop (Molecules) Supply chain Lego workshop

Ethicon Experience Students rotated through several stations including: surgical staplers, wound closure, bio surgery tools At each station got hands-on experience with the products in a training environment As a concluding session, the sales trainers answered various questions about college and transitioning to work at Ethicon The trainers were younger of age and maybe more relatable

Camp Bernie Students participated in various team building activities such as low ropes, wilderness skills, and zip line Great way for students and mentors to participate in a fun activity Kick-off option to break the ice

Medical Panel 3 individuals from 3 different careers participated in a panel Pharmacist (J&J), Occupational Therapist (RVCC), Med Student (BTE Alumni) Students asked many questions were very engaged through out

Future planned events J&J Design Office More career panels (Mentors) College lunch and learn BCC 3D lab Great Adventure Physics Day College tours Open heart surgery viewing

Lessons Learned Don’t spend more than 10-15 mins “lecturing” the students Not another class at school Hands on portion should be majority of the session but make sure to keep lecture portion separate If all day event – break up the session into parts to keep students engaged If possible, have younger speakers that are more relatable to the students
