Declaration of Independence

The Declaration of Independence was America’s break up letter with Britain. Just writing this document was seen as an act of treason. If the Americans lost the war, everyone who signed this document would be put to death.

Preamble The Declaration of Independence is split into 4 parts. Natural Rights List of Grievances Resolution of Independence

Preamble means beginning. Part 1: Preamble Preamble means beginning. If a country feels like it should break away, it should tell the mother country why. It is time for us to break away! We are gentlemen though. Let’s write our reasons in a letter! Britain is soooooo mean to us!!!!

Part 2: Declaration of Natural Rights All humans are born with rights. When these rights are taken away, citizens have the right to end their relationship. Remind the King that I have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness!! If he can’t treat us well, we will not stay in this relationship!

Part 3: List of Grievances This section listed all the ways the government of England mistreated the colonists. You sent us to England for trials. You wouldn’t allow us to trade with our countries! You taxed us without our permission! You sent over thousands of soldiers to live with us without our permission! You got rid of our elected colonial lawmakers.

Part 4: Resolution of Independence Announces that, because they have been treated so badly, they are leaving the British Empire and becoming their own country! WE ARE OUT OF HERE!!!!
