Ecosystem A community of Biotic and Abotic Factors that are linked together.
Niche A habitat supplying the necessary factors for existence.
Producer (Autotroph) Gets energy from the sun and makes food through Photosynthesis. Ex: Plants and trees
Consumer (Heterotroph) An organism that generally obtains food by feeding on another organism Cannot make own food, Must Consume! Ex: All Animals
Decomposer Gets energy from eating dead plants and animals. Ex: fungi and bacteria
Predator An animal that naturally preys on other animals Ex: Wolf eats the rabbit
Prey An animal that is hunted and killed by another for food Ex: Rabbit eaten by Wolf
Parasite An organism that lives in or on another organism and benefits by deriving Nutrients at the expense of the host Must live off host to survive (harmful) Ex: tick on a deer
Host The organism that supports the parasite An animal or plant that a parasite lives on or in The organism that supports the parasite Ex: Dog supports the heartworm parasite
Biotic Living organisms Ex: All plants and animals
Abiotic NOT Living Ex: Wind, water, sunlight, rock and minerals
Abiotic Factors
