Sentence Transitions Sentence Transitions for Cause and Effect therefore for this reason as a result consequently thus that is why (noun clause) This presentation will look at six sentence transitions that you can use when you write sentences that convey the meaning of cause and effect. For the first five transitions, the punctuation is the same. You can end the first sentence with a period, and start the new sentence with a capital letter or you can end the first sentence with a semicolon and start the second sentence with a small letter. In both cases, the transition is followed by a comma.
