ActivRAC® Layout Considerations

Survey Proposed Space - Floors Check floor levelness (ActivRACTM 8 & 16 only) Check for any floor drains Floor transitions, misalignment, ramps, curbs, etc. Inquire if any electric or plumbing exist in the floor

Survey Proposed Space - Floors Thickness of slab ActivRACTM 8 & 16 Min. 6” top mount rail Min. 6.5” recess

Survey Proposed Space - Floors Thickness of slab ActivRACTM 30 Consult Factory

Survey Proposed Space – Columns Measure and locate column sizes, centerlines Obtain if possible, building CAD files from customer, but proceed to field verify dimensions Note required traffic aisle Check for tapered columns and columns against walls. Measure height and size of taper in columns Note any raised footing or curbs at base of columns Note any equipment on columns in the area that will need to be relocated Fire extinguishers, eye wash units, etc. Phones, computers, speakers, horns, etc. Switches, Electrical boxes, etc

Survey Proposed Space – Walls Measure and locate walls, openings, doors, building fire exits, etc Note location of electrical service panels that need access Check if walls have a raised footing or curb at the base Locate any HVAC ducts running along walls

Survey Proposed Space Ceilings/Roofs Sloped roofs, measure high and low heights Ceiling mounted sprinklers Need to have system evaluated Maintain minimum 18” clearance Does an electrical bus bar run through proposed area Locate any HVAC ducts running along ceiling/roof Lighting - location and height Gas Heaters - Need to maintain distance from combustibles Overhead Cranes

System Access Aisle Width Aisle width is dependent of material handling equipment used and width of the materials being accessed Guidelines Counterbalance truck – 10’ to 12’ Reach truck – 10’ Narrow aisle truck with rotating head – Consult truck mfg. Always inquire with customers on desired width

System Orientation Can system be configured out in one or two different orientations Longer carriages result in more cost effective solutions Which direction gives you the greatest distance between columns and /or walls Does one orientation eliminate a perimeter traffic aisle, resulting in more storage in the same space.

Typical Static Racking

Maximize Storage More capacity in the same space

Free Up Space Store same in less space

Carriages can be split, multiple times, operates as one unit Split Carriages

Typical Single Module Columns and /or walls sets module size

Handpick Aisles Manually move carriages to location and program as stationary

Multiple Modules System configured by building columns

Stagger Height of Racking Avoid ceiling obstructions

Stagger Carriage Lengths

Storage Warehouse (DC) Carriages can be split, multiple times, Operates as one unit

Storage Warehouse (DC) Split carriage, long lengths, split by columns

Phased Approach
