Just What Do We Do? In a nutshell, we are responsible for coordinating: All aspects of the design, development and approval of all academic programs and courses Program Reviews in conjunction with the Program Chairs Team activities for the development of student handbooks (and instructor manuals, when required)
Design, Development and Approval of Academic Programs An academic program is a combination of specified academic courses or modules forming a coherent unit of study. Development or major re-development of a program involves a (re-)definition of program outcomes, and/or (re-)design of overall program structure, and/or (re-) development of one or more sequences of courses.
Design, Development and Approval of Academic Programs New program opportunities may be identified through: Market analysis Customer needs analysis Customer requests For new programs, approval for the pursuit of the opportunity must be obtained from the Executive Committee.
Design, Development and Approval of Academic Programs For new programs, consultations take place with industry to obtain input related to program outcomes and graduate profile. A program advisory committee is established. The Curriculum Specialist plays a major role in all consultations.
Design, Development and Approval of Academic Programs For existing programs, consultations with faculty, the program advisory committee, the coordinator of programs, students and graduates, and employers take place at least once per year in the form of Program Review. Again, the Curriculum Specialist plays a major role in all consultations.
Design, Development and Approval of Academic Programs All new programs and changes to existing programs require proper documentation and approval prior to being implemented. It is the Curriculum Specialist who prepares the documentation for submission to, first, the Non-degree Programs Committee (NPC), and second to Academic Council.
Design, Development and Approval of Academic Courses New courses or changes to existing courses come about as a result of: The development of new programs The review of existing programs or courses The reorganization of courses in programs Customer requests
