This solution is fast and reliable, but closed and for small partners sometimes too expensive. With development of Internet standards like XML there is more open and flexible approach possible. The problem is luck of processes and document standardization. Some worldwide initiative groups like ebXML work on that issue and first standards are published this month. Electronic business is already much present in transport, logistic, customs, banking and healthcare in Slovenia. All those branches use technologies based on EDI and Value added networks. Last year trading partners in Slovenia (buyers and suppliers) together with company Atnet developed open standardized solution. The solution is in first phase based on EDI (Edifact) and X.400 using IP and Internet. In the second phase smooth migration to XML and Internet is in plan. With this way trading partners get best from both worlds: reliability and availability of classical EDI and openness and flexibility of Internet and XML. Buyers can send or receive their e-documents using EDI and X.400 to suppliers who are on X.400 network or internet using either EDI or XML on supplier side. Also buyers with XML and internet connectivity can send or receive their e-documents to both kind of suppliers. All partners can use full integrated solution with their ERP or just simple internet connectivity with web or email XML interpreter. All traffic is controlled end-to-end from ERP systems where e-document appear through networks to partner end ERP system. All events are monitored, logged and in case of errors sent via e-mail, GSM SMS or Pager systems to operators on any side. Status of electronic business with particular buyer or supplier can be published on the web page – www.atnet.si (so called HUB). Technologically it means EDI and XML using VAN (X.400) integrated with internet IP (VPN, ESMTP, ...).
