Untangling Essential Hypertension: The Potential Roles of Aldosterone and Atrial Natriuretic Peptide  Giovanni Davogustto, MD, Thomas J. Wang, MD, Deepak K. Gupta, MD  Mayo Clinic Proceedings  Volume 93, Issue 8, Pages 965-967 (August 2018) DOI: 10.1016/j.mayocp.2018.06.012 Copyright © 2018 Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research Terms and Conditions

Figure A model of the interaction between aldosterone, natriuretic peptides, and hypertension. Relative natriuretic peptide deficiency results in less inhibition of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system. Consequently, aldosterone levels increase, leading to higher blood pressure. ANP = atrial natriuretic peptide. Mayo Clinic Proceedings 2018 93, 965-967DOI: (10.1016/j.mayocp.2018.06.012) Copyright © 2018 Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research Terms and Conditions
