Introduction to FOSSmap FOSS online assessment system

Goals As a result of the workshop, participants will have an increased understanding of: Navigating through FOSSmap. Using FOSSmap to formatively assess students in science. Goal 1-The instructional design and content of the 3rd Edition FOSS kit. We want to review the instructional design of FOSS, discuss any questions you have about the content, and address and problems you are having. Goal 2-How the use of science notebooks supports student science and literacy learning. We will also be touching base on the use of science notebooks. In the 3rd Editions FOSS Kits, notebook use is integrated throughout the lesson. So again, I would like to discuss how your use of notebooks is facilitating the instruction and assessment in FOSS. Goal 3-Effectively implementing Professional Learning Communities. Finally, we will wrap up todays session with discussion on your PLC groups.

Coding An Assessment Once your students complete the assessment online, you will have to code open ended assessments on the FOSSMap site. To do this, pull down the item und “Select an item” in the middle of the screen. On the right of the screen, you will need to pull up the “Coding Guide”. This will give you suggestions on coding assessment items. Always remember to click SAVE.

Report Tab You can access reports through the “Assess” tab as earlier shown or you can access them through the “Run Reports” tab. When clicking on the “Run Reports” tab, this window will appear and prompt you to select your class, module, assessment (Survey/Post-Test or I-Checks), and type of report. Once you have done this click run report and your report will appear. Let’s pause for a minute to give you a chance to ask any other questions about FOSSMap.
