Gentile Park Demonstration Project Creating a park community through design and partnerships

Gentile Park Demonstration Project:

Gentile Demonstration Project: Community Overview 4 distinct groups to serve Modest-Middle income single family homes New construction duplex homes $150,000 starting Business Park Employees- 65% Clerical and support staff Senior Subsidized single units City has invested CBDG funds into the neighborhood to east “Wiles Creek” neighborhood in last 8 years. City has rebuilt streets and sidewalks to neighborhood to west in the last 5 years. Beavertown Elementary, Kettering Middle School and Fairmont High School are public schools.

Gentile Park Demonstration Project: Community Overview The redevelopment of the property called Acorn Walk has been on going for over 10 years. During the Air Force transition to city, some issues surfaced with the stream and land contaminants. Potential skepticism with park development based on past history Based on feedback from Beavertown Elementary Principal a bit of neighborhood disconnect.

Gentile Park Demonstration Project: Vision Create a park asset that becomes a destination for activity and creates a sense of place for the community Goals: Enhance the existing natural features of the park for passive and active engagement Strengthen the ability to create routine physical activity for all 4 distinct neighborhood residents Develop a tool to measure levels of physical activity and social engagement Create partnerships to assist and provide subject matter expertise to the project
