Title of the Slide As you will be presenting in a large lecture theatre, please prepare your slides by following the simple rules below: Keep your design simple – each slide should have a simple message. Limit bullet points & texts – i.e. limit them to six lines with six words on each line. Continued

Title of the Slide Limit transitions & builds (avoid animation) Use high-quality graphics Have a visual theme, but avoid using PowerPoint templates Use appropriate charts Use colour well (try not to use more than three colours)

Title of the Slide Choose your fonts well (recommend Arial, Helvetica, Tahoma or Veranda, instead of Times or Times New Roman) Use a suitable font size (suggest 32 for titles & minimum 24 for text) Keep the text style simple – artistic styles may not be readable in large lecture theatres.

Title of the Slide Use opposite (or contrasting) colours, not adjacent colours, to improve clarity

Title of the Slide Dark coloured texts and figures on light coloured background project better in large lecture theatres. Use this combination. Stay with the same colour background throughout the presentation. Place graphics on one side (say, on the left hand side) to create space for entering text (say, on the right hand side).

Title of the Slide Ensure that the purpose of the presentation is clear at the outset itself, by including a slide to present aims and objectives. Pay attention to clarity of information than quantity of data on each slide and the whole presentation. Finish the presentation with a set of conclusions, as the take away message.

Title of the Slide Name of organisation, crest/logo, titles, etc. should appear at the same location on each slide. Allocate at least 1 minute for presenting each slide. Rehearse and redesign slides until you are fully satisfied.
