Cutoff Saws BAND TYPE
Horizontal Band Cutoff Machine SAWING MACHINES Cutoff Saws Horizontal Band Cutoff Machine Horizontal band saws in the machine shop may have a material capacity up to 18 or 20 in. Medium- and large-capacity horizontal band saws may be of the dual-column design. Large dual-column horizontal band saw (HE&M Saw).

Vertical Band Machines SAWING MACHINES Vertical Band Machines Consists of an endless band blade or other band tool that runs on a drive & idler wheel. The band tool runs vertically at the point of cut where it passes through a worktable on which the workpiece rests. The workpiece is pushed into the blade, and the direction of the cut is guided by hand or mechanical means.

Power Saw Safety Do not operate this or any other machine before receiving instruction on it’s safe and proper use. Be sure blade is of the correct pitch before cutting with it. When making up a new blade, be sure to have a good solid weld Always use a pusher block, never guide the work with hands Don’t cross your arms in front of the blade while pushing Never attempt to remove small pieces, that get caught behind the blade, while the machine is running. Pay attention to your work! Don’t talk to others while you are sawing.
Power Saw Safety SAWING MACHINES Regulations require the blade of the horizontal band machine to be fully guarded except at point of cut. Make sure blade tensions are correct, especially after installing a new band, as new bands may stretch and loosen during their run-in period. Band teeth are sharp, handle with gloves when installing. Endless band blades are often stored in double coils, which may spring apart when unwinding. Make sure that the band is tracking properly on the wheels and in the blade guides.
Power Saw Safety SAWING MACHINES Make sure the band is tracking properly on the wheels and in the blade guides. Make sure material being cut is properly secured. If you are cutting off short pieces of material, the vise jaw must be supported at both ends. Support both ends of the vise when cutting short material.
Power Saw Safety SAWING MACHINES Do not attempt to cut material that is too short. The stock cannot be secured properly and may be pulled from the vise by the pressure of the cut. Stock should extend at least halfway through the vise. Result of cutting stock that is too short.
